Receiver in the ear hearing aids are the most popular style of hearing aid that we supply at House of Hearing. A common concern can be recalling where the battery goes and what way up it should go. Firstly, there are three different sizes of battery and these are colour coded to make it easier to identify which battery is yours. The code and corresponding colour is as follows:
· 312 – Brown
· 10 – Yellow
· 13 – Orange
If you are in any doubt as to what size battery you need then call into one of our clinics and we will be happy to help. Fresh batteries should come with a sticker colour coded as below and beware of any batteries that don’t as they may have been used before.
The video here will show you how to insert the battery correctly into a receiver the ear hearing aid. One of the most important things to remember is that there is a positive and negative terminal. It is possible to put the battery in the wrong way round in most hearing aids, but if that happens there will be some resistance to closing the battery door. Be careful not to force it otherwise the battery door may break or the battery might become stuck in the hearing aid.
To check if you have inserted a fresh battery correctly, switch the hearing aid on (most switch on when you close the battery door) and close your hand over it. A simple test is that the hearing aid will start to whistle and therefor you have power.
