Melanie Jackson has been a central figure at House of Hearing since 2012, leading the organisation’s ear care and Earwax Removal services as Head of ENT Nursing and National Clinical Lead.
She has overseen the development of a national earwax removal service, establishing a consistent clinical framework that ensures high standards of care across all clinics and supports thousands of patients each year. In 2019, she led the successful registration of the Edinburgh clinic with Healthcare Improvement Scotland, making it the first officially registered earwax removal clinic in Scotland and setting a benchmark for clinical governance, safety and regulatory compliance.
Melanie began her nursing career in 2000 at St Bartholomew’s Hospital in London, specialising in ENT, Head and Neck, and Ophthalmology. She went on to work as a Community Nurse in Scotland and later as an ENT Nurse Practitioner at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge, building extensive experience across both hospital and community settings.
She has developed House of Hearing’s in-house Clinical Ear Care training programme, ensuring that all practitioners receive structured, supervised training to a consistently high standard. Alongside this, she has worked as a national trainer in earwax removal techniques. With additional audiology training from Queen Margaret University, her expertise spans all methods of earwax removal and complex ear care.
Melanie’s clinical work includes supporting complex ear cases, paediatric patients and specialist medical appointments . She is highly experienced in identifying wider ear conditions and facilitating direct referral to ENT specialists where appropriate .
Alongside her clinical leadership, Melanie has been committed to improving access to care. She led the introduction of a free Earwax Removal service for over-75s at select clinics, helping to support vulnerable patients while easing pressure on local NHS services.
Known for combining clinical expertise with a calm, compassionate approach, Melanie remains focused on delivering safe, accessible and high-quality ear care that makes a meaningful difference to patients’ lives.
