Les Powney

Les brings more than 20 years of clinical hearing care experience to House of Hearing, combining a strong technical background with a warm and compassionate approach to helping people hear well.

After graduating from the University of Exeter with a BSc in Chemistry, Les began his career working in desktop publishing software. Realising that he wanted a career where he could work more directly with people, he retrained in audiology in Manchester in 2004, achieving distinctions in both his theoretical and practical examinations.

Since then, Les has helped thousands of people with their hearing across both NHS and private hearing care. He is a passionate advocate for independent audiology, valuing the freedom it provides to use advanced diagnostic tools and consider the latest hearing technology when finding the right solution for each individual patient.

Les also understands that taking the first step towards addressing hearing loss isn't always easy. His approach is supportive and reassuring, helping patients understand their hearing and make informed decisions at a pace that feels right for them.

“We often hesitate to acknowledge or act on hearing loss, but I've noticed a growing openness towards addressing the communication challenges it can bring. That's a really positive change.”
