Individual experience of tinnitus can vary greatly
Tinnitus is the perception of sound by the ear when there is no corresponding sound being produced in the hearer’s surroundings.
The individual experience of tinnitus can vary drastically. It may affect one ear or two, manifest itself as hissing or whistling, sound continuously or intermittently and vary in pitch. For those with permanent tinnitus, it can be a frustrating and distressing experience.
Key to managing tinnitus is re-learning how to perceive the sounds. During a consultation with a House of Hearing audiologist, we may recommend tinnitus retraining therapy. This therapy will help you take control of your tinnitus experience and give you the ability to ‘push’ the noise into the background. Masking technologies can also help obscure tinnitus sounds.
We offer tinnitus treatment via our centres in Edinburgh, Galashiels, Perth and St Andrews.
