Our Staff

Stephen Fairfield is Managing Director of House of Hearing. Stephen completed an MSc in Clinical Audiology at the Victoria University, Manchester in 1989, after obtaining a Masters degree in Psychology at the University of Edinburgh. He received the Cunningham-Beattie Award for best student in the British Society of Hearing Aid Audiologists exam, attaining fellowship status the following year.
 
Andrew Quinn Andrew Quinn completed a degree in Electronic Engineering at the University of Edinburgh in 1996, and qualified as a registered hearing aid dispenser the following year. Andrew is a Fellow of the British Society of Hearing Aid Audiologists. Our most senior dispenser after Stephen, Andrew has particular responsibility for our St Andrews branch. Has a borderline obsession with cricket, and enjoys playing and listening to music in his spare time.
Stuart Lyness Stuart Lyness studied Electrical & Electronic Engineering and then IT Systems Integration before working for eight years in IT. He joined House of Hearing in 2002, qualifying as a dispenser in January 2004, and is a Fellow of the British Society of Hearing Aid Audiologists. Stuart has particular responsibility for our clients in East Lothian and Fife, and spends his spare time hill walking, cycling, swimming, and rock climbing! Colin I'Anson Colin I'Anson obtained a degree in Modern History and Management from the University of St Andrews in 2004 and worked in financial services for three years prior to joining House of Hearing. He qualified as a dispenser in 2009, taking on responsibility for our Glasgow outlet at Black and Lizars in 2011. Colin is a member of the British Society of Hearing Aid Audiologists, has been married to Vicky since 2006 and enjoys golfing and playing guitar in his spare time.
Shona Jackson Shona Jackson has degrees in Textile and Fashion Management and Retail Management. Shona joined House of Hearing in 2006, qualifying as a dispenser in 2009. She runs our Galashiels centre and is a member of the British Society of Hearing Aid Audiologists. Recipient of two business awards, she also has qualifications in counselling and community education, and volunteers with the PSYBT, a local youth club and charity shop. Her interests include collecting and customising pieces of retro furniture and interior design. Graeme Cockburn Graeme Cockburn studied engineering in Edinburgh before re-training in audiology, qualifying as a registered hearing aid dispenser in 1984. Since then he has acquired considerable expertise in the field of noise-induced hearing loss, and in the development of an innovative type of personalised hearing protection. Graeme is a Fellow of the British Society of Hearing Aid Audiologists and established St Andrews' first independent private hearing care practice. Outwith the office, Graeme is working on improving his golf.
Ruth Porteous Ruth Porteous qualified as nurse in 1985, and during her nursing career worked mainly in urology and cardiology. Ruth runs the front of house operation at our Edinburgh centre. Ruth has a life-long connection with House of Hearing, being the daughter of David Fairfield, founder of House of Hearing, and sister of Stephen Fairfield. Moira Cockburn Moira Cockburn was brought up in St Andrews and attended Edinburgh College of Commerce to do a course in Secretarial Studies with Languages. Thereafter, much of her working life has been in administration, apart from those years devoted to bringing up two daughters. She returned to St Andrews in 2002 with husband Graeme where together they established their private hearing care practice. Moira now looks after the day-to-day running of the St Andrews branch of House of Hearing.
